Micron, Qualcomm surge premarket; Hertz slips


Investing.com – U.S. stock index futures rose sharply on Thursday, with technology and semiconductor stocks leading gains after upbeat updates from two major players in the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

By 05:20 ET, S&P 500 futures had gained 0.7%, Nasdaq 100 futures had surged 2.1%, and Dow Jones futures had risen 0.1%.

Chipmakers and AI-linked stocks were among the strongest performers in premarket trading after robust earnings and bullish growth projections reinforced optimism around AI-related spending.

Here are some of the biggest premarket U.S. stock movers today:

Micron shares surged nearly 20% after the memory-chip maker reported fiscal third-quarter revenue and earnings that comfortably exceeded Wall Street expectations. The company posted revenue of $41.46 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $25.11, driven by strong demand for AI-related memory products.

Qualcomm jumped 11.8% after unveiling a series of initiatives at its Investor Day that highlighted its ambitions in AI data centers. Investors welcomed the company’s long-term growth strategy and expansion beyond its traditional smartphone business.

SpaceX rose more than 1%, attempting to stabilize after a volatile week of trading. Shares have retreated sharply from their post-IPO highs after KeyBanc earlier this week raised concerns about the stock’s valuation following its rapid rally.

Wendy’s surged 14.2%, extending recent gains after the fast-food chain announced the appointment of Steve Cirulis as chief financial officer and chief strategy officer. Investors continued to respond positively to the management changes.

Hertz slipped 2.3%, adding to losses from the previous session after the rental-car company cut its second-quarter earnings outlook and announced two capital-raising transactions, raising concerns about its near-term financial position.
