By the time the weekend rolls around, staying in and watching a new show are just about the only plans that sound appealing to me. I used to get excited about getting dressed up and staying out late, but I won’t lie to you, those days are over. Instead, streaming what’s new is now my idea of a wild Saturday night. I’m so committed to it, I’m even marking release dates in my calendar months in advance.
With all of the streaming services now, it can be hard to keep up with what to watch and where to watch it. However, this month, the lineups are so good that you’ll want to ensure you have a subscription to every platform, or at least your friends’ passwords. These shows and movies are about to be the sole topic of conversation in The Everygirl’s #watercooler Slack channel, and I’ll be damned if I miss out on that.
Cancel your plans and get comfortable because it’s time to hit “Play.” Without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated shows and movies that are new on streaming this month.
Netflix
Outer Banks Season 5
Grab your tissues, Pogues, because our favorite treasure hunters are signing off for good. The fifth and final season of Outer Banks sends John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo on one last adventure, and after the cliffhanger the last season left us on, the stakes have never felt higher. It’s the end of an era for one of Netflix’s most binge-worthy teen dramas, so expect plenty of danger, drama, and gold before the Pogues ride off into the sunset.
The Whisper Man
If you like your August with a chill down your spine, this one’s for you. Based on Alex North’s bestselling psychological thriller, The Whisper Man stars Robert De Niro in a chilling crime drama about a father and son who move to a small town with a dark history of child abductions, only for the disappearances to start up again. With a star-studded cast and a genuinely unsettling premise, it’s the perfect late-summer thriller to watch with the lights on.
My Life with the Walter Boys (Season 3)
The cozy small-town drama that took over everyone’s watchlist is back for a third season. This coming-of-age series follows Jackie, a city girl navigating grief, first love, and the chaos of moving in with a big, rowdy family in rural Colorado, all while caught in the middle of an irresistible love triangle. If you love a heartfelt teen drama with plenty of swoon-worthy moments, this one delivers, and it’s already been renewed for a fourth season.

The Shards
Ryan Murphy fans, rejoice. Based on Bret Easton Ellis’s bestselling novel, this new thriller series follows a group of privileged Los Angeles teens in the 1980s whose lives are upended when a mysterious new student arrives just as a serial killer begins stalking their circle. With Murphy’s signature stylish, sinister flair, The Shards is shaping up to be one of the buzziest new shows of the month.
Adults (Season 2)
If you need something lighter to balance out all the thrillers, this FX comedy is back for round two. Adults follows a group of 20-something friends fumbling their way through jobs, relationships, and the general chaos of figuring out how to be a grown-up in New York City. It’s sharp, chaotic, and relatable in the most unflattering (read: hilarious) way, making it the perfect low-stakes binge.

Reacher (Season 4)
Everyone’s favorite hulking ex-military drifter is back for a fourth season, and Alan Ritchson returns to throw punches and solve crimes as Jack Reacher. This season adapts one of Lee Child’s fan-favorite novels, dropping Reacher into a fresh conspiracy full of danger, twists, and the satisfying justice the series is known for. If you love a high-octane action thriller, this is your August must-watch.
Sterling Point
This new drama series is one of Prime Video’s most-anticipated originals, and it’s already generating buzz. Sterling Point follows the intertwined lives of a group of characters navigating ambition, secrets, and power in a high-stakes world. With a compelling ensemble cast and plenty of drama, it’s a great pick if you’re looking for a fresh series to sink into.

Love Island USA Season 8 Reunion
The summer’s most-talked-about show isn’t quite done with us yet. After a record-breaking season in Fiji (five straight weeks as the number one streaming reality series), the Love Island USA Season 8 cast is reuniting to rehash all the recouplings, Casa Amor chaos, and post-Villa drama, with Ariana Madix and Andy Cohen returning to host. This year’s reunion is a first for the franchise: it’s being filmed in front of a live studio audience, so expect even more energy as the Islanders finally watch the season back and confront everything they missed while living it.

Ted Lasso (Season 4)
Believe, because Ted Lasso is finally back after a three-year hiatus. Jason Sudeikis reprises his role as the relentlessly optimistic American football coach in a season that finds the folks at AFC Richmond learning to “leap before they look.” After a mixed reception to season three, fans are eager to see where the beloved, big-hearted comedy takes its final(?) chapter. Either way, it’s the feel-good return we’ve all been waiting for.
