Perez Hilton’s team and family said in a statement Wednesday that the celebrity blogger is receiving medical care after he appeared to harm himself Tuesday night during a TikTok livestream.
“Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers,” Hilton’s team and family said in a statement.
“We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being. We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time. If and when we are able to share any updates, we will do so with everyone as soon as we can. Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support,” it continued.
Viewers called police Tuesday night after they witnessed Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., apparently harm himself live on TikTok. Videos of the incident have been taken down, but according to multiple reports, Hilton was naked and covered in blood during it.
Police said they staged a de-escalation in his Florida home.
This incident follows Hilton’s hospitalization earlier this year when he had severe sepsis and then again because of a deep vein thrombosis. He was bedridden for multiple weeks, but in April, he posted a video of himself walking. After his hospitalizations, Hilton started speaking out about how he was saved by God.
Hilton and his blog following celebrity news and gossip gained popularity in the early 2000s for its unrelenting harsh, crude and harmful commentary, with Hilton often drawing penises on photos of young female celebrities, such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Vanessa Hudgens.
In recent years, Hilton has apologized for how he treated celebrities. In April, he said he had apologized “publicly and privately to dozens of people.”
“Because I was so selfish, because I didn’t care who I hurt, I just cared about the views, the attention, the money — people hated me,” Hilton said in a YouTube video. “Some people enjoyed it, but it felt like most people hated me. And last week, since I’ve been home, I haven’t been getting as much hate, and I’ve been getting love and prayers.”
He added: “I don’t do gossip. I do celebrity journalism. And I have to provide for my family. I have three young children, and my mother that I also support, and my sister, who works for me. I’m doing my best.”
